Meet The Cast

Drag nature walks hosted by Efemmera Gendera and Thespis D. Light! Serving the fun of drag mixed with an appreciation for the natural world. Explore Portland's natural areas with fiercely smart and stunning queens and kings in this new drag experience.

Efemmera Gendera

Efemmera Gendera

Efemmera Gendera is trained as an Environmental Scientist, Behavioral Ecologist, and Ornithologist (i.e., she studies birds). She has studied the behavior and relatedness of bushtits the past five years and wrote her Master's thesis on the relatedness or bushtits (if you're interested, DM her and she'll send you a copy). Efemmera is experienced in teaching, primarily ecology, and is extremely passionate about the overlap between phenomenology and ecology. I know what you're asking: What the hell does that mean? Well, phenomenology is the philosophical discipline that deals with the investigation of subjective, conscious experience. In philosophy, we typically keep this investigation limited to humans, but we can apply this to non-human organisms too (i.e., What is it Like to Be a Bat? by Thomas Nagel). In a nutshell, Efemmera promotes the acknowledgement of the consciousness of non-human organisms. In a world that has promoted capitalism, competition, and exploitation (based on a naïve understanding of how evolution actually works), she believes that recognizing the subjective experience of other organisms is the key to developing a moral-ethical framework for a sustainable society that lives in harmony with functional ecology. Efemmera is more than excited to bring environmental education and build community through drag and looks forward to seeing y'all out on the trails! ✨️💜🏞

Thespis D. Light

Thespis D. Light

@thespis_d.light_ has had a wide range of jobs throughout his life, but each of them had something in common… Animals! Nothing about this host is traditional, including his work and school background. He was unable to start college for some time after highschool do to financial hardship, but when you have a passion, you make it work! He has worked in animal care spaces including veterinary hospitals, animal shelters, zoos & aquariums and wildlife rehabilitation centers. During the last 5 years he has spent his summers as a park ranger in beloved Oregon parks across the state, focusing his skills and vast realm of knowledge on education and interpretation! He is particularly passionate about making the natural world a safe place for BIPOC and Queer folks to come out and reconnect with nature, we are nature, we are the great rivers in our power and reach as high as the sequoia, we deserve our space in nature. On top of his love for nature and community he is also a lover of theater and performing (could you tell?) so he is beyond excited to connect these worlds in a fun and unique way! Thanks for reading and I’ll be d.lighted to see you on the trails! 🌲🎭
